Being in the tropics, the grounds also hosted its own kind of prehistoric mascots, a variety of large water monitors called Varanus. These dinosaur-like reptiles could be found lurking in the many waterways around the campus or laying out on the bike paths enjoying the sun and scaring the exchange students when they need to ride past.
